On 3 November, the British domestic intelligence services (MI5) raised the terrorist alert level in the United Kingdom from « substantial » to « severe » (level 4 out of 5), in the wake of the complex terrorist attack on Vienna (Austria) and several incidents in France (see our previous alerts).
This « severe » level of alert indicates that a terrorist attack is « very likely ».
The British Home Secretary nevertheless indicated that this change was not made in response to a « particular threat ».
Vigilance is required while security reinforcements are expected in the vicinity of government buildings, places of worship and heavily frequented public places.
