According to the police, at least 3 people were killed and 34 others injured in the clashes that broke out on the fringes of a demonstration staged in Kampala today, 18 November, in condemnation of the arrest of opponent Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi) (see today’s warning).
According to the same source, “the security forces defeated violent groups with tear gas and lethal weapons”.
Unrest was also reported in other cities, particularly in Jinja, Masaka, Mukoni and Mityana.
Ongoing demonstrations and tension should be expected in the coming days. It is advisable to keep well away from all mob movements due to the risk of clashes.
