The United Nations (UN) announced 3 November that a second humanitarian worker had been killed in South Sudan. The victim was shot dead by “young armed people” 30 October when he was leaving the offices of the local NGO Nile Hope in the Jonglei State.
The shooting occurred in the Canal/Pigi County.
The day before, another humanitarian worker of the NGO Plan International had been killed in Pibor, in the same State.
Humanitarian operations have been suspended in the region.
According to the same source, 9 humanitarian workers were killed in the country since January 2020.
In a joint communique published in October, the South Sudan embassies of the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union reported a deterioration of the security of the humanitarians in the country.
