17 November will mark the 31st anniversary of the start of the Velvet Revolution (1989) which led to the fall of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia. Due to the health situation, most of the commemorations and gatherings traditionally organised on this occasion will not take place this year.
However, a demonstration has been called that day in Bratislava by the far-right People’s Party – Our Slovakia (LS – NS) to denounce the health measures in place to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Participants will gather at 16.00 (local time) on Hodzovo námestie, outside the presidential palace.
As demonstrations are currently banned, tension cannot be ruled out in the event of police intervention.
It is advisable to stay away from all gatherings.
