Demonstrations were held across the country 12 November in Lima to protest against the impeachment of former President Martin Vizcarra and the inauguration of new President Manuel Merino (see our previous alerts).
Local press reported that several mobilisations took place near la Plaza San Martín and government buildings.
Responding to throwing stones and projectiles, the security forces fired tear gas. Police in the capital have announced the arrest of several protesters.
Separately, in an alert message dated 12 November, US diplomatic authorities warned of demonstrations in several urban centers, particularly in Lima.
In this context, disruptions and road blockages are to be expected over the next few days, despite the health measures.
It is recommended to stay away from any gathering or movement of crowds.
