According to the local press, at least 2 people were killed and dozens of others injured during clashes that erupted 14 November between the security forces and thousands of protesters gathered in Plaza San Martín, in Lima to protest against the impeachment of former President Martin Vizcarra and the investiture of the new President Manuel Merino (see our previous alerts).

According to the same information, the police used tear gas to disperse the protesters and to prevent them from reaching the Congress of the Republic buildings.

The president of the Peruvian Congress, Luis Valdez, called on the same day for the resignation of interim president Manuel Merino after the death of the 2 protesters.

Ongoing protest movement should be anticipated in the next few days.

We remind you that it is advisable to keep well away from all gatherings and mob movements. Unrest is possible in the event of police intervention.
