According to media sources, at least 2 people were injured 3 November in an attack carried out by suspected dissidents of the former Mozambique National Resistance Rebellion (Renamo) against a bus traveling along the national road EN1.

The vehicle was ambushed near the locality of Matenga, between the districts of Gorongosa and Nhamatanda.

According to the same information, the dissident leader of the armed group, Mariano Nhongo, has denied the attack.

We remind you that attacks by suspected members of a dissident branch of the former Mozambique National Resistance Rebellion (Renamo) have increased since August 2019 in the provinces of Sofala, Manica and Nampula (see our previous alerts). Conditions are particularly dangerous on the EN1 linking the north to the south of the country and on the EN6 linking Beira to Zimbabwe and other southern African countries.
