According to the Afghan Interior Minister, the complex attack on the Kabul University ended after 6 hours of intense clashes with the security forces 2 November (SSF 02/11/2020).

The attack, claimed by ISIS, reportedly started at 11:00 local time 2 November when 3 attackers apparently managed to gain entry to the law faculty. They are said to have opened fire indiscriminately on the students and teachers present inside the building. It is thought that one of the attackers detonated his explosive belt during the clashes. The two others are believed to have been shot dead by the security forces.

Casualty figures report at least 22 dead and 22 injured.

Local sources have revealed that the attack coincided with the inauguration of a book exhibition by Iranian and Afghan officials at the university.
