The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) reported that at least 34 civilians were killed in the night of 14 to 15 November after gunmen attacked a bus in the Metekel area.
The toll is likely to increase over the next few hours.
3 other simultaneous attacks also took place in the region.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the violence.
According to the same source, more than 100 people have been killed since September in this region. The causes of this violence remain unknown for the time being. According to some media, the causes could be “territorial claims, proximity to the Renaissance Dam, or ethnic cleansing against the Amhara communities.”
We remind you that 32 people of the Amhara ethnic group were killed 1st November following a similar attack carried out in the district of Guliso, in the region of Oromia (SSF 04/11/2020).
Ongoing violence is not excluded.
