The Constitutional Court is expected to release in the next few days the list of candidates authorised to run for the 27 December presidential election. Among the 22 registered candidates, François Bozizé (president from 2003 – 2013) could see his candidacy rejected for failure to comply with a clause in the electoral code.
Supporters of candidates who do not appear on this list could mobilise in the days to come, particularly in Bangui. Supporters of Kwa Na Kwa (KNK, François Bozizé party), who are very present in the capital, could demonstrate if the former president candidacy is refused. These mobilisations could be marred by clashes between rival supporters and the security forces, who have regularly used live ammunition against protesters in the past.
It is advisable to stay away from any gatherings in the coming days.
